Mrs. Kathy Bement
Mrs. Bement has lived in Waterloo for 22 years. Her husband, Kevin, is the principal of Cahokia High School, and they have three children. Their oldest son, Brian, is 23 years old, a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, and currently a professional soccer player with Puerto Rico FC in the NASL. Mrs. Bement's middle son, Brendan, is 21 years old and is a senior engineering major at SLU. Her daughter, Brice, is a 19-year-old sophmore at Indiana State University, on a soccer scholarship and pursuing a major in Communications Media Studies.

Mrs. Bement spent 12 years in the home office of Edison Brothers in St. Louis in the Information Systems Departments starting as a computer programmer and finishing as manager of the financial systems. When Edison Brothers closed, she decided to stay at home with her children. That same year, she began subbing and coaching for SPPCS, loved it, and went back to school to receive her teaching certificate in Elementary Education. Mrs. Bement is in her 13th year at SPPCS. After spending her first 9 years teaching 5th grade, she is now in her 4th year teaching junior high English and eighth grade homeroom.
Coached SPPCS softball team to 2 SIJHSAA State Championships in 1999 and 2001, and a 3rd place finish in 2010.
Fun Facts about Mrs. Bement:
To obtain her teaching certificate, Mrs. Bement commuted daily for a year-ans-a-half to SIU-Carbondale--90 miles each way! Mrs. Bement was also a D1 softball player at EIU, and her husband was a wrestler at EIU, thus their family's obsession with sports. Mrs. Bement has coached softball at the junior high, high school and elite club levels. Last October, Mrs. Bement completed her first half-marathon. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her family, and she has spent the last 13 years traveling coast-to-coast with her children's clun and college sporting events.
